CHANGE

by: Angela Manalang-Gloria

I have outgrown them all, and one by one,
(I have overcome the things that I love)

These loves I took so mightily to heart
(These things that I love so much)

Before you came: the dolls that overran
(Before, I valued my passion for writing)

My childhood hours and taught me fairy art;
(In my younger years, my imagination had broaden)

The books I ravished by the censored score;
(I stop playing dolls and I diverted my attention to books)

Music that like delirium burned my days;
(I find great excitement when playing music too)

The golden calf I fashioned to adore
(This passion is an art that I adore)

when lately I forsook the golden phrase.
(When lately I left this passion that I adored).

And thus I shall outgrow this love for you.
( And finally I shall overcome my love for literature)

Sooner or later I shall put away
(So that sooner or later I can set aside)

This jewelled ecstasy for something new.
(This precious things for something new)

Brand me not fickle on that fatal day;
(Don't call me unfaithful for leaving literature)

Bereft of change that is my drink and bread,
(I've done this sacrifice for the sake of my survival because)

I would not love you now, I would be dead.
(If I don't love this new passion of mine, I will surely die).
